15 Apr

This Saturday at 4 PM at The Resolution Health Impala Floodlit Tournament at Impala Club, Ngong Road, Kenya’s foursquare community will come together to unlock the world’s first Super Swarm badge in Africa. Many have tried, none have succeeded.

The organisers need 250 people to sign up on foursquare.com and “check-in” at the Impala Club venue.

The organisers are looking for 254 check-ins to show the world that +254 is the place to be in Africa!

Tickets to the Resolution Health Impala Floodlit Tournament are Ksh. 300 each, so you get great rugby action, an awesome crowd and some foursquare badges to boot!

We’re at the E63 club would like to support this initiative by giving away 2 complimentary tickets to the finals!

“Check in” to your current location by taking a photo and posting it to our facebook group or posting it on Twitter with the hashtag  #SuperSwarmKE.

The most interesting or creative check-in wins the tickets!!

It’s International 4square Day on the same day. That’s 3 foursquare badges you’ll get (for those wondering) Swarm, Super Swarm & 4sqday.

For more details on the event, visit http://4sqmobs.com/SuperSwarmNBO. To help you check in on the day, download the Foursquare app on your E63.

Foursquare App for Symbian

28 Sep

I was using the Ovi Store to check on Motogaris app when I discovered the Foursquare app.

Foursquare is a mobile application that makes cities easier to use and more interesting to explore. It is a friend-finder, a social city guide and a game that challenges users to experience new things, and rewards them for doing so. Foursquare lets users “check in” to a place when they’re there, tell friends where they are and track the history of where they’ve been and who they’ve been there with.

I’ve been using Gravity, the fabulous Twitter app that has Foursqaure integration but I must admit this Standalone App takes it to another level!

I’ve grabbed a few screenshots to give a feel of how it works

Homepage

The App has a simple homepage. You navigate to the nearby Tab and it shows you a list of your friends nearby

If you go to options>places  the app will try to triangulate your position and give you a list of places you can check into. If you cant find the place you want, initiate a search

Search

If you still dont find the place you can add it to Foursquare.

Add Place

It seems the App uses Ovi Maps, Ovi Maps don’t have as much street level detail as Google Maps so you may be disappointed.

Ovi Maps

Once you’ve found a place, checking-in is as simple as clicking on the place and you will be presented with this menu

Check-in

There are a number of other features incorporated into the app, you can for instance search for nearby tips

Nearby Tips

You can also “shout” straight from the Homepage

Shout!

I will update this article as I discover more about the app but for now I must say its pretty good!! To download it, go to the Ovi store and Search for “Foursquare”
